Precise force controls enhance loudness discrimination of self-generated sound

چکیده

Motor executions alter sensory processes. Studies have shown that loudness perception changes when a sound is generated by active movement. However, it still unknown where and how the motor-related in depend on task demand of motor execution. We examined whether different levels precision demands control affects perception. carried out discrimination test, which stimulus was produced conjunction with force generation task. tested three target amplitude levels. The presented monitor as fixed visual target. also same movement cursor. Participants adjusted their predetermined range without overshooting using these targets moving In condition, stimuli were externally (without task). found performance significantly improved compared to externally, although we did not find this improvement changed depending results suggest for precise produce amount may be key obtaining facilitatory effect execution auditory

Perceived Loudness of Self-Generated Sounds Is Differentially Modified by Expected Sound Intensity

Performing actions with sensory consequences modifies physiological and behavioral responses relative to otherwise identical sensory input perceived in a passive manner. It is assumed that such modifications occur through an efference copy sent from motor cortex to sensory regions during performance of voluntary actions. In the auditory domain most behavioral studies report attenuated perceived...

Loudness and Loudness Discrimination Revisited

We present evidence that the psychophysical function relating loudness to sound pressure is governed by a nonlinear gain control system, one of whose functions is to protect the sensory system from overload. Specifically, the loudness function is altered nonlinearly when loud sounds are added in an identification task previously containing only soft sounds but not vice

Temporal integration of loudness, loudness discrimination, and the form of the loudness function.

Temporal integration for loudness of 5-kHz tones was measured as a function of level between 2 and 60 dB SL. Absolute thresholds and levels required to produce equal loudness were measured for 2-, 10-, 50-, and 250-ms tones using adaptive, two-interval, two-alternative forced-choice procedures. The procedure for loudness balances was new and employed ten interleaved tracks to obtain concurrent ...

Does Meaning of Sound influence Loudness Judgements?

In former experiments, we compared consecutive loudness judgments based on the time sequence of a long-term traffic noise with two synthesized versions of this noise, one realized with help of FTT-based procedure, the other with the conventional procedure using a pink noise multiplied with the temporal envelope of the original sound. We found that meaning had no significant influence on loudnes...

Sound Bit-Precise Numerical Domains

This paper tackles the challenge of creating a numerical abstract domain that can identify affine-inequality invariants while handling overflow in arithmetic operations over bit-vector data-types. The paper describes the design and implementation of a class of new abstract domains, called the Bit-Vector-Sound, Finite-Disjunctive (BVSFD) domains. We introduce a framework that takes an abstract d...
